Lindsey Gallacher graduated from Edinburgh College of Art in 2000 with 1st Class honours in Jewellery and Silversmithing. She has worked as a studio jeweller since then. In 2015 she started incorporating Caithness flagstone, her local stone, into her work and was awarded a grant to obtain stonecutting machines to help with the process.

Soon after, customers would commission Lindsey by bringing in their own pebbles that they had collected. The geology of these have been wide and varied from alabaster to chrysoprase.

Place and Landscape

‘Sense of place’ has been the corner stone of her work ever since discovering the importance people place on a feeling from a particular location. Whether it be from a holiday destination, to an ancestral home, a place where ashes were scattered, to a proposal spot. The pebbles and rocks from these places are sent to Lindsey’s studio from around the world where she then turns them into wearable pieces of jewellery. The pebbles are always returned with the jewellery in hope that they may return to its original location. Notable locations include, Madagascar, Queensland and Costa Rica.

Experimentation with cutting methods and the exploration of geological qualities continue to influence Lindsey’s work, and has recently elevated her work by using her designs in sculpture.
