Description

Hendrike Barz-Meltzer: ‘HDPE/ HOPE’ Ring comes in two sizes (N and M). These two rings combine different techniques, which juxtapose concepts of value. The main body of the rings are made from Argentium silver. The top pieces are decorated with 24ct gold foil. This is done in the ancient Korean technique of Keum-Boo. This is the art of bonding gold foil to silver through heat and pressure. Both rings also feature overlapping HDPE discs which contrast beautifully with the gold and silver. The ring shank is made from 1.6×1.4 mm D-section wire.

HDPE/ HOPE

Hendrike Barz-Meltzer: ‘HDPE/ HOPE’ Ring is part of the limited collection HDPE/ HOPE. This collection is an expression of Hendrike’s concern with the global environmental crisis. Through this collection she questions how beauty and concepts of preciousness are tied to materials. Further examining the consequent implications for their use. Questioning certain materials preconceived ‘preciousness’. Querying why some items are classified as ‘single-use’- even though the materials they are composed of are actually long lasting. Hendrike invites the wearer to examine these tensions through the jewellery and materials used in this limited collection.

The pieces in this collection are made from Argentium silver, recycled silver and recycled 24ct gold foil, silk and recycled HDPE plastic.

All jewellery in this collection is unique and stand-alone. Made using traditional hand-fabrication methods. Hallmarked at the London Assay Office.
