Natasha Day Wearable Sculpture Collection

Natasha Day Wearable Sculpture: Beam is part of ‘Natasha Day Wearable Sculpture Collection’. From the nooks and crannies in brick walls to the groins at the beach to the cracks in the pavement, this collection seeks inspiration from the materials lurking in nature. Natasha has crafted a one off collection for GroundJewels of striking wearable sculpture. Constantly inspired by the materials which lurk in nature and display the marks of external influences, this collection asks the viewer to question what is art and what is jewellery?

‘These pieces are to hold, to wear, to feel, to be seen as unique, wearable sculptural objects’ Natasha Day

The Value of Scrap

Natasha sources all her material from scrap, scavenging and what her husband, who is a carpenter, brings back from work. Combining a sensual mediative understanding of material alongside a playful creative approach, Natasha lets the materials lead her design process.

Since beginning an MA in Fine Art at Norwich University of the Arts she has been working predominantly with steel and machinery. Steel is not usually considered a Jewellers first choice as a material. But referencing her family history as one of both Jewellers and smelters, Natasha returns to this material. Her focus for this collection raises questions around the value status of ordinary and scrap metal. Using heavy machinery not usually associated with jewellery production, she uses the plasma cutter, the welder and the grinder to explore the potential for metal to be embellished, elevated and displayed or worn as sculptural art pieces. This collection of striking pendants beautifully contrasts shapes, textures and colours. Caused by heat exposure and heavy machinery.

About

Natasha Day is a mixed media artist with a primary interest in materials and their possibilities for mutation, change and evolution. Both with machinery and by hand. Her work always features the attraction of organic shapes, lending themselves to both the tactile and visual senses. Natasha’s background in mental health nursing, both in the UK and Australia, involved the use of counselling and art as part of an expressive therapy practice.  Natasha is currently based in Norwich, and runs empowering art workshops whilst exhibiting around the county.

Care note

All Natasha Day Wearable Sculpture has been sealed with ‘Renaissance Micro-Crystalline Wax Polish’. To keep it looking its best clean as needed with ‘Cape Cod Polishing Cloth for Fine Metals’. Steel has a small percentage of nickel in it, so be please be aware of nickel allergies. As special costume statement pieces they are best worn over clothes and kept dry.
